Leadership in Space Week provided many opportunities for children to broaden their knowledge and develop their leadership skills in a range of different ways. The Space theme was explored from all angles and the children threw themselves wholeheartedly into every activity.
The children were enthralled by the Astrodome, undertook independent research into the planets and expanded their understanding of outer space. The older children also made good use of spaces around the School to create treasure hunts for the younger pupils. They took part in a Minecraft problem-solving activity and Year 5 developed their communication skills and worked collaboratively creating spaceships out of junk. A new skill was introduced in the willow workshop and the children worked together to create the wonderful Space-themed sculptures now on display in the dining hall. In order to help the children to become resilient leaders, they all took part in a yoga class and Years 3 to 6 were introduced to the benefits of mindfulness. Pre-Prep had an Alien Day as they read Claire Freedman's Aliens Love Underpants! They enjoyed baking, junk modelling and painting, as well as joining in with the activities prepared for them by the older year groups.
As ever, magic moments were provided through the arrival of an ice cream van (courtesy of the SVPSPA) and the film and popcorn evenings and Year 5 camp night. One again, we were all very proud of the children who demonstrated that they are successfully developing the skills that will ensure they become both leaders, and leading citizens of the future.
