On Monday 9th January, the U13A Hockey team travelled to Kent College, Canterbury to play in the Tier 1 County Hockey Tournament. Despite six of the team being part of the winning side at last year’s tournament, the team arrived nervous as they were yet to train as a team prior to the event.

The team navigated the group stages with wins against The Harvey Grammar School (4-2), Ashford School (3-2) and Skinners’ Academy (5-1). Setting up a quarter-final against Simon Langton Grammar School, which they won 8-0. This set up a repeat of last year’s semi-final, with SVS facing St Edmund’s School. Last year the match went to penalties, but this year SVS continued their excellent run and won 4-1.

The final was a repeat of last year’s, with Kent College, Canterbury also making the final again. The U13s, as they had all day, played some great Hockey and won 3-1, winning the Tier 1 county tournament for the second year in a row, an outstanding feat for the side.

Special individual mentions must go to Chester Livesey (Second Form), who played in goal in his first-ever competitive fixtures and did an amazing job, and Cian Nelson (Second Form), who scored 12 goals in six matches.

Squad: Wian Botes, Nathan Calverley, Hugh Elms, Xavi Elms, Gus Gouldstone, Aaryan Haque, Seb Harmer, Max Jarvis, Chester Livesey and Cian Nelson (all Second Form).
