Headmaster’s Headlines – 20.05.22

Senior School
20 May 22

The Upper Sixth had their last formal day of School today. In assembly this afternoon, we wished them all the very best as their examinations start and we reminded them of all the support that has been – and will continue to be – on hand for them. We will, of course, see them again next Friday for a celebration event, and they have their Leavers’ Service in June, as well as their Leavers’ Ball in July so there are plenty more occasions to say goodbye, but for now we have our fingers crossed for them.

Plenty more events have taken place this week including a very full Fourth Form Parents’ Evening, a highly civilized dinner with the student Heads of House and, for the most part, the various fixtures escaped the rain! There have been some lovely feedback from those who attended the SVS Foundation event with Old Suttonian Neville Sarony QC (1958 M) who spoke about his life experiences and also his writing about the Gurkahs. I gather plenty of students purchased books and they look forward to reading them.

Today, the Juniors ‘Penguin Race’ was great fun – little did I know that my role was going to be to dress up as a penguin myself and I even ended up in the pool too (See Twitter)! This afternoon’s assembly had Lower Sixth student Callum Davis give a talk on the French political system and a great rendition of Sweet Caroline from a last-minute-formed band.

I hope that all parents manage to find the time to look at our glowing inspection report that you have been sent today. It is also on the ‘About Us’ section of the website. There is, of course, always a great deal to be done and things which we can improve, but this process is very helpful for us to take a moment and reflect on the quality of provision here. We are certainly not complacent, but we are certainly proud of the state of the School. Before Half Term I will write again with some of the key aspects that came out of the Senior School parental feedback survey which took place recently.

Another busy week in the run up to Half Term ahead – do check the key dates below and the main calendar on the portal!

A final plea to look at the link below to the fundraising campaign we have for an ambulance for the Ukraine. Thank you to those who have offered your support already.
