Motor Neurone Fundraising

Senior School
13 Nov 20

Those of you who have been at the School for a while will remember twin brothers Guy and Patrick Backhouse (2016 F). We have recently heard from Patrick who informed us that this December, he, Guy and their elder brother Angus are undertaking a charity fundraiser in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Motor Neurone Disease (also known as ALS) is a relatively rare degenerative neurological disease which affects around 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. Sadly, the boys’ father, Michael, was diagnosed with MND two years ago, so the charity holds particular personal significance for them.

To support the charity, the Backhouse brothers will each be running 100 kilometres of the Thames Path, from Henley to Big Ben, over a 48-hour period. This is a huge undertaking and one that we, as a School, wholeheartedly want to support. You will see from the JustGiving page that the boys have already surpassed their target, but we would like to help them go even further. Both boys played such a large part in the life of SVS during their five years with us and we are delighted to publicise their efforts and encourage our community to support them.
