A few weeks ago, we posted a story about the success of Old Suttonian, Ian Jones (1992 M) and his business, Hill House Farm. We were inspired to do so after he had been in touch to acknowledge the role that SVS had played in his early interest in catering and hospitality. Through former members of staff, Annie Wilkinson (Staff 1984-2016) and Kay Andersen (Staff 1988-2020), the thriving Home Economics department at the time inspired a number of Suttonians to progress on to successful careers in the hospitality industry.
What the post didn’t mention was the significant community role that Ian played during the first lockdown last year. During the early stages of the pandemic, he brought other local farmers, growers and producers together to deliver quality sustainable food and local produce to homes across the Surrey Hills and the surrounding area.
In recognition of that, we are delighted to say that Ian Jones has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honours List in recognition of services to the community. Congratulations Ian!
