Factor Trees in Maths

Senior School

This week, Mrs Harrison’s Year 5 Maths set have been challenging themselves by extending their knowledge and understanding of factors and prime numbers.  They have been exploring the concept of prime factors.  Factors of a number which are also prime numbers are called prime factors.  A factor is a number which divides exactly into another number without leaving a remainder.  The children were set the challenging task of completing and drawing their own ‘factor trees’ to show the process of factorisation.  We decided that rapid recall of our times tables was the key to successful factorisation and thanks to TT Rockstars, our knowledge of multiplication tables is getting better and better.
