Let’s Start as We Mean to Go On!

What a fabulously musical start to the second half of the Michaelmas term we have had this week.

Mr Selby, our drum teacher and promoter of all things percussive, woke up the Pre-Prep Department with a bang, in their Thursday morning assembly! He introduced them to some of the many instruments they might get to try if they join his Pre-Prep Drum Squad next term. There was no shortage of eager and enthusiastic volunteers to have a go on the djembe drums, the cahon, the agogo bells and the tambourine. Next term, Mr Selby will be reinstating the Drum Squad for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and is looking forward to welcoming some new recruits, but places are limited so look out for the club list!

On Thursday evening some of our most senior musicians showed off their solo performance skills at a superbly polished and wonderfully entertaining Year 6 Informal Soloists’ Concert. The repertoire included familiar traditional items and classical greats as well as some contemporary gems, all delivered with confidence and flair – well done Year 6, you have set the bar high!

Finally, on Friday morning, the SVPS Orchestra wowed the School in Celebration Assembly with their first performance since re-convening post-lockdown. It was super to see how, in just a few short weeks since the start of term, they have made such super progress and so quickly regained an impressive sense of ensemble and togetherness. The Orchestra is now working hard towards their first public performance, and we hope you are looking forward to it as much as they are!
