Having spent some of the term studying Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in both English and Drama, Year 6 were rewarded for all their hard work, with a trip to where the magic happens – Shakespeare’s Globe! On arrival in London we crossed Millennium Bridge to enjoy a whistlestop tour of the nearby Tate Modern; where we took in some interesting art exhibits.
After lunch, Year 6 made their way, through the gigantic bubbles and reggae tunes along the Southbank, to Shakespeare’s Globe. Once inside, the children were given a guided tour of the magnificent theatre and were then whisked away to a private performance space, for a ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ drama workshop. The children quickly got into character and were acting out scenes from the play with confidence. The Globe actors running the workshops commented on how impressed they were at the knowledge and enthusiasm of our children.
As the day drew to a close, there was just enough time for the traditional trip to the gift shop, where we were lucky enough to meet some Gladiators, who were backstage during a live performance of ‘The Oresteia’; what a treat and the perfect end to a great day out in London! Many thanks to Mrs Barr for organising the trip.
