Depending on your metric, Spring might officially have sprung. But, despite the host of golden daffodils on the lawns, there has not been much other evidence in sight this week. From plunging temperatures to ample snowfall, sporting postponements and cancellations to wet breaks and chilly forest-schoolers, it has been a week for all of us to exhibit our Super Hoot powers of Tenacity and Bravery, including our parents, bus drivers and staff on some rather intrepid journeys on Wednesday morning when we circumnavigated another snow day.

Dressed as their favourite bookish characters, the whole school showcased their costume efforts in a year by year parade, before heading to the Headmaster’s lawn to join together in a full school photo!

Our Show Jumping teams were competing at Duckhurst Equestrian Centre in Staplehurst over the February half term and we have brilliant news to share. In the 60-centimetre class, Albert S (Year 5) placed fourth and Charlotte L (Year 6) placed sixth, and in the 50-centimetre, Albert again placed fourth.

Pupils in Year 5 had the pleasure of drawing real-life models in the Art Room. The children dusted off their portrait drawing techniques from Year 4 with a quick recap of facial feature proportion, drawing one another as a warm-up to reinforce observational and shading skills.

What a fraction-mad week the mathematics department has had! Pupils in Years 4 to 6 have been going fraction crazy in the classroom. Those in Year 4 have been cutting up bread to help identity, compare and find equivalent fractions whilst Year 6 pupils have been simplifying and converting fraction Smarties into decimals and percentages.
