Children in Year 2 have had an exciting return to School by starting the week off with pancakes made kindly by the Parents’ Association. This week the children looked at Birds of Paradise by Eric Carle, to inspire their own artwork.

The children in Year 1 have had an exciting week coming back to School. They have learnt the ‘au’ and ‘aw’ sounds from the Phonics Shed and learned about fractions through pancakes.

This week the Reception children have been learning some tricky new sounds in their Literacy lessons, ‘ay, ee’ and ‘igh’. They have also been busy in their Mathematics lessons too; they have been reading and ordering higher numbers and beginning to understand that teen numbers are ten plus some more.

The only way to begin this week’s newsletter is to let you know about two departing members of staff. Mrs Martin has decided to leave Little Lambs and pursue a different career path after several years here at SVPS, most recently as the Nursery Assistant Manager. We know that she will receive a warm send-off when she leaves us in early March, especially from the children and staff with whom she worked most closely.

Imagine dropping a pebble into a calm lake and the resulting ripple that it creates in the water. That is what pupils in Year 5 have been focusing on in their Drama lessons this week, enhancing the Superhoot Learning Power of Observation. First, they sat in a circle, legs crossed, with a leader making a movement such as placing their hand on their shoulder. That ripple went around the circle until everyone was doing the same. They added complexity and intensity by increasing the number of movements and speed.
