Headmaster’s Headlines – 14.01.22

It is a stunning afternoon here at School. The School site looks beautiful today, bathed in sunshine with hardly a cloud in the sky. Sunrises and sunsets have also been breath taking; I wonder how many more days we can have like this as the winter progresses.

Using the Surface Gos and Linguascope, the children have been learning new vocabulary for items in their pencil cases. Linguascope is our online language programme, and each child is able to work through the exercises and online games at their own pace. Children are able to choose to return to any part of a topic and repeat activities where they feel they need to. This ensures that they are confident in their knowledge and new language acquisition before moving on to the next activity.

Prep School

On Tuesday 14th March, Year 5 went to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve as part of their studies on rivers and coasts. They were greeted by the ladies from the Discovery Centre and walked down to the Education Zone, spotting different coastal features on the way. The morning started with a visit to the beach, past the bird sanctuary, spotting different breeds of birds on the Salt Marsh flats. Once they had reached the beach, they had to comb the site looking for any evidence of discarded sea life, as well as picking up any litter. The children worked in groups with buckets finding shells, shark and ray eggs and parts of crabs. They also found bits of plastic, metal and wood that had washed ashore and discussed the relative lifespan of rubbish depending on their materials.

As I type this on Friday morning, I am still beaming with pride at what our children and staff accomplished last night in the Spring Concert. We all know all too well how precious community events like this are after the last few years when gatherings became illegal. The creativity, joy and excellence on show last night, interspersed with glimpses of other learning powers such as bravery, originality and collaboration, made for a wonderful celebration and I am grateful for all who participated or assisted, including especially to Mrs Lordon.

Hello, my name is Holly and one of my favourite hobbies, besides art and horse riding, is cooking.
