Wellbeing Tip of The Week

This week, the TIDE team met to agree our focus for the Summer Term: challenging discriminatory language. We are increasingly aware of the language young people may encounter in the world around them. At times, public discourse (both online and offline) can be divisive or unkind. Exposure to these influences, whether through social media, public figures, or wider global events, can shape how pupils communicate and what they come to see as acceptable.

In response, the TIDE team has developed a Tutor Time activity to encourage students to reflect on the language they use and to deepen their understanding of the impact discriminatory language can have on others. Our aim is to promote a culture of respect, empathy and accountability within our community.

The Wellbeing Team also met this week to plan initiatives for the term ahead. A key focus for our pupils wellbeing ambassadors is to take a more proactive role which includes, reaching out to peers who may appear sad or isolated, rather than waiting for them to ask for support. We recognise that seeking help can feel daunting, and this approach helps to create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

We are pleased to see a growing number of wellbeing ambassadors supporting younger pupils, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Many pupils value having someone closer to their own age to talk to and we are very grateful for the compassion and commitment our ambassadors show.
