This week, Ms Austen delivered a breakout session for our Third Form focused on accountability. The session explored why accountability is such an important life skill, highlighting that when young people take responsibility for their actions, others are more likely to trust them, they learn constructively from mistakes and they remain in control of their choices.
Pupils examined what accountability looks like in practice, including: admitting mistakes; offering sincere apologies; reporting concerns appropriately and making positive changes to behaviour. Through a range of scenarios, pupils applied these ideas to everyday school life. They were encouraged to consider one specific action they would take this week to demonstrate greater responsibility, whether in how they speak to others, how they behave online, how they respond when something does not feel right, how they conduct themselves in lessons or how they act around the school community. The Third Form were engaged throughout the session and many contributed thoughtful and mature reflections.
Following the success of last week’s Wellbeing Festival, our Wellbeing Ambassadors led a lively “Be Active” event in the form of a Capture the Flag tournament. It was wonderful to see our ambassadors taking initiative, organising the event with enthusiasm and creating an atmosphere of teamwork and fun across year groups.
Our TIDE team also met this week to discuss the evolving language young people use. You may sometimes hear words or phrases at home that are unfamiliar. This week, students helped staff understand some current slang terms. Some of our Sixth Form TIDE members will be sharing their insights with the wider staff body so that we can remain informed and appropriately challenge language where necessary.
