Kent Cricket Relationship Soaring

Senior School

In recent years, Cricket at Sutton Valence has gone from strength-to-strength with both boys and girls enjoying considerable success.  In addition to developing SV pupils, the School has established an outstanding relationship with Kent Cricket and is actively supporting the sport across the County by providing facilities and coaching expertise.

Mr Wells, a former England cricketer and Head of Cricket at SVS,  has been involved with Kent Cricket for many years and is currently coaching as a Senior Academy Coach several times each week.  Miss Jelfs, a current Kent Women’s squad member and Head of Girls Cricket at the School, is coaching various age groups for Kent whilst Mr Law, an Old Suttonian and former SVS 1st XI team captain, helps coach at some Kent junior sessions whilst also coaching for the Southern Spartans district age groups throughout the year.

These three members of the Sutton Valence Sports department are currently running a Kent Cricket hub for girls aged 13-17, with 15 players attending these sessions in the SV Sports Centre every Tuesday evening throughout the Michaelmas Term.

After Christmas, training sessions for the Kent Girls Development will commence in the Sports Centre, with four of these sessions taking place on Sundays and a further ten on Wednesday evenings until 29th April.

The School is also hosting four Kent women’s sessions on Sunday mornings in the run-up to Christmas and it is very likely that the School will host various Kent age group fixtures during the summer.

Following the success of previous events at SVS, both the boys and girls three-day district Cricket festivals will be hosted at Upper during the Summer of 2020.

This outstanding relationship with Kent Cricket is a testament to the high-quality facilities and experienced coaching staff available at Sutton Valence School.
