In our Second Form wellbeing lessons this week, pupils have been exploring how physical activity can positively influence both mood and motivation. They have been learning how lifestyle choices such as exercise, spending time outdoors and social connection can support the release of hormones that enhance wellbeing and help us feel more energised and positive.
Our Fourth Form pupils have been focusing on the topic of mental health. I have been very impressed by the maturity, thoughtfulness and respect they have shown in these discussions. One particularly important theme we explored was stigma surrounding mental health. Pupils reflected on how stigma can sometimes create barriers that prevent people from seeking support and we discussed the importance of fostering a culture where it feels safe and acceptable to talk about how we are feeling and to ask for help when needed.
I also wanted to highlight that there are some excellent resources for parents on neurodiversity available in the Wellbeing Hub, which you can access here: Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16th–20th March). These resources include a particularly insightful podcast featuring an adult reflecting on his experience of having ADHD during his school years, offering a valuable perspective on how neurodiversity can shape learning and school life.
