U11A IAPS Tournament

The U11A girls travelled to Canterbury full of excitement and a few nerves, ready to take on many new and unfamiliar teams at the IAPS Hockey Tournament.

Their opening match against Halstead St Andrews saw a slow start, with quick opposition play leading to two early goals and a 2–0 defeat. Undeterred, the girls regrouped and approached their next game against Windlesham House with renewed focus. Demonstrating greater strength on the ball, quicker passing and solid defending, they battled hard for a well-earned 0–0 draw.

Confidence growing, the team entered their final group game against Hazelwood determined to push forward. With excellent movement, confident runs down the wings and much-improved defending, they secured another 0–0 draw, finishing third in their pool and progressing to the quarterfinals against Granville.

From the first whistle, the girls displayed impressive teamwork, speed and determination, earning a brilliant goal to take a 1–0 lead. Despite further scoring opportunities and some heroic saves from our goalkeeper, Granville equalised late in the game. The match went to Golden Goal and then to shuffles, a first-time experience for the team. Every player showed fantastic composure and courage, but the result narrowly went 2–1 to Granville.

It was a fantastic day of hockey, full of learning, teamwork and growth. The girls should be extremely proud of their performances and sportsmanship throughout.

A big thank you to Mr Scholey for his umpiring and support.
