Moving to Reception

The move from Nursery to Reception is an exciting milestone and our transition programme is designed to ensure every child feels secure happy and ready for the next step. At Sutton Valence we believe that a positive transition comes from familiarity, strong relationships and a gentle introduction to new experiences.

Throughout the Lent and Summer Term, children and families are invited to take part in a series of sessions that introduce Reception life in a warm and reassuring way. These experiences help children understand their new environment, meet their future teachers and begin to see themselves as confident Reception pupils.

Our programme includes opportunities for parents to learn about the Reception year and the principles that guide Early Years learning at Sutton Valence School. Children enjoy play-based classroom visits, time in Forest School and moments that help them explore new routines in a way that feels fun and natural. Families are also welcomed into the wider community, through relaxed events at the School.

These sessions give children the chance to build confidence at their own pace. They become familiar with classrooms lunch routines wrap-around care and the wider Prep environment long before their first day. By September they return as happy eager learners who already feel at home.

Moving into Reception should feel exciting not overwhelming. Our caring approach ensures every child begins this important year with curiosity joy and the strong sense that they are fully supported on the next stage of their Sutton Valence journey.
