On Wednesday 10th September, Upper Sixth A Level Media students visited Sky and Elstree Studios to take part in the Sky Academy Initiative.

In preparation, they participated in a Masterclass where they worked together to develop their own film concepts.

During the visit they explored the state-of-the-art facilities and were excited to learn that Elstree Studios has recently produced major titles such as Jurassic Park and Wicked. Working in the same space as iconic director Steven Spielberg, who had visited only the week before, helped students feel more connected to the industry and gave the trip a truly professional atmosphere.

Using cutting-edge technology the group brought their ideas to life and experienced the full process of ‘script to screen’. They rotated through a range of roles including director, producer, actor, editor and cinematographer before pitching their final projects to one another.

Alongside the hands-on experience students also engaged with industry experts, gaining insight into the many creative and technical career paths available and considering which roles might suit their own skills and ambitions.

The day was a fantastic opportunity for our students to express their creativity in a real-world industry setting while also receiving valuable guidance on future career options.
