1st VII – Mr Ellis
The 1st VII travelled to Rosslyn Park on Monday for their National Schools Sevens group fixtures, arriving well prepared and focused despite a difficult journey and delays that limited their warm up time. They began strongly, producing a composed and clinical performance to beat St Joseph’s College 24-0, an excellent start under the circumstances.
The second match against The King’s School, Canterbury was more challenging. King’s defended with determination and organisation, making it hard for us to build momentum and we were unable to come away with the win. Going into the final game, the boys knew a strong result was required, and although they responded with intent, the outcome did not fall in our favour.
While it was not the send off our Upper Sixth leavers had hoped for, their contribution has been outstanding, with particular thanks to Harry D, Josh S and Sam C for their commitment. There were also important positives, with nine Lower Sixth players gaining valuable experience at this level. The squad prepared exceptionally well, and the learning from this campaign provides a strong platform to build on next season.
U16 VII- Mr Alexander
On Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, we delivered a strong performance in the Boys U16 group stage at the Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s. SVS finished second in the group, securing two convincing wins and suffering only one narrow defeat, ending the day with an impressive points difference of +27.
The team opened with a confidence boosting 17-0 win over St Lawrence College, controlling territory and possession throughout. A tightly contested match followed against Ysgol Gyfun Rhydywaun, where both sides scored four tries. The result came down to conversions, with SVS narrowly losing 22-26. Despite this, the performance showed they could compete with the very best. The boys then regrouped superbly, braving wind, hail and sleet to produce a 28-14 win over Lutterworth High School and finish the group stage 2-1.
A fantastic effort from the squad and a brilliant end to their Rugby 7s season.
U14 VII – Mr Howell
The U14 squad headed to Rosslyn Park full of confidence after winning the Plate Competition at Reigate Grammar School. Their opening match against Stonyhurst was always expected to be close, and it proved exactly that, with SVS just short in a 15-10 defeat. From that point on, the only route to day two was to become one of the top four runners up across the whole tournament, meaning the boys needed two exceptional performances. They delivered. SVS went on to beat St Peter’s School, York 43-0 and The Leys School 48-5, securing their place in the eliminator against Hymers College. In their best display of the day, the team won 40-7 to progress to day two.
On day two, the boys pushed rugby giants Millfield and had real chances to take the win, eventually losing 24-7. They then drew 10-10 with King’s Macclesfield and were narrowly beaten 14-10 by St Albans School in two matches that could easily have gone their way.
Reaching day two at Rosslyn Park is an outstanding achievement and the boys should be incredibly proud. Notable mentions go to Tiger N and Mason S, but the most impressive part of the campaign was the collective effort, determination and endeavour shown throughout.
U13 VII – Mr Milne
On Friday the U13 team had the chance to compete in a festival style tournament. It was their first event of this kind and the boys played very well throughout. They also stayed to watch the Cup Final, which proved a great source of inspiration for what lies ahead.
