Wellbeing Tip of the Week

Senior School
28 Nov 25

This Half Term, our pupils have been exploring some important topics in their Wellbeing lessons, focusing on how our interactions, identities and experiences shape both our relationships and our personal growth.

First Form – Community, Respect and Anti-Bullying
First Form have been learning about the importance of positive relationships within a community. We have discussed how prejudice and stereotyping can affect others and how these attitudes can limit both personal development and a healthy community culture.
This week, we moved on to the topic of bullying. Pupils have been learning how to recognise bullying behaviour, understand its impact, and, most importantly, consider practical ways we can respond to and prevent bullying, both in and beyond school.

Second Form – Understanding Gender Stereotypes
Second Form have been examining gender stereotypes and the ways these can influence people’s lives. After identifying common stereotypes they may have seen in society, pupils explored some of the real-world consequences these beliefs can have, such as: Pressure to behave in certain ways; Expectations around roles in relationships, home life or the workplace; Barriers to certain careers or ambitions; The idea that some people “shouldn’t” express emotions or seek support and challenges faced by those who feel they do not fit traditional expectations. Pupils reflected thoughtfully on how stereotypes can restrict wellbeing, and how we can create a world in which everyone feels able to be themselves without judgement or pressure.

Third Form – Bereavement and Grief
Third Form have been learning about bereavement, grief and how people cope with loss. This is a sensitive topic, and I have been genuinely impressed by the maturity and empathy shown in our discussions. Pupils also watched a short video featuring young people speaking about their own experiences of grief, helping them recognise that there is no “right” way to feel or heal.

A Podcast Recommendation
Over the weekend, I listened to a new Diary of a CEO podcast featuring sleep expert Matthew Walker. He discusses many fascinating areas, including sleep debt and the value of a digital detox before bedtime. It would make an excellent listen on a family car journey and could spark some meaningful conversations around establishing healthy sleep habits.
