On Wednesday, the U11A girls hockey team took to the pitch at the SVS tournament with energy, excitement and a fierce sense of pride.
Their focus was evident during the pre-match team talk ahead of their first game against Ashford. With clear heads and determined hearts, they started strong, using the space intelligently, linking up with impressive teamwork and creating multiple scoring opportunities. Their efforts were rewarded with a confident 1–0 win, setting the tone for the day.
Next up was Marlborough House Vinehall and the girls were riding high from their opening victory. From the first whistle, they came out firing. Their defensive line held firm, while the attack surged forward with purpose and precision. The result: a superb 2–0 win, built on grit, skill and unity.
After some joyful team-building games and singing that kept spirits high, the girls faced Somerhill. Despite coming up against a stronger side, they never backed down. They fought hard, stayed positive and played with heart right up to the final whistle, a true testament to their resilience.
The final match was the playoff for fifth and sixth place against Kent College Canterbury, a team they had faced just weeks earlier. Rather than dwell on the past, the girls approached the game with fresh determination. They showed excellent skill, unwavering teamwork and a mature mindset. Though the result did not go their way, their performance earned them a very respectable sixth place out of 12 teams.
The girls did themselves and the school proud. Their passion, perseverance and sportsmanship shone through every match. Well done, U11A – you were outstanding!
