| CCF Trip To Brunei
This summer 15 members of the CCF took a trip to Brunei. They spent three weeks as the guests of 1RGR. The trip involved charity work with KACA, a charity for handicapped children, cultural experiences and a week learning survival skills with the Gurkhas in the jungle. The visit ended with some R&R in Kota Kinabalu and a vist to Sepilok, the Oran Utan sanctuary where we adopted a baby!
Other activities during the three weeks included a jungle range shoot, extraction from the jungle in a helicopter, a Nepalise concert, sailing and kayaking and a wildlife river run. The support from the Gurkhas and TTB was fantastic and we hope to return in 2010.
The Officers of Sutton Valence Combined Cadet Force would like to thank all the Non-Commissioned Officers that are leaving the School and moving onto new ventures for the time and effort that they have put into the CCF and we hope that they have enjoyed their experience and learnt skills that will last them a lifetime.
The CCF provides an organisation within Sutton Valence School which enables boys and girls to develop self-discipline, responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance, perseverance, a sense of service to the community and leadership. It compliments the academic and other extra-curricular aims of the school in preparing our pupils for adult life.
All the three service elements of Army, Navy and RAF are offered at Sutton Valence and pupils may join in the 3rd Form (Year 9) and CCF is also one of the option choices in the 4th Form (Year 10). Cadets are encouraged to join the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme where there is the opportunity for planning and undertaking expeditions.
All cadets in the 5th Form (Year 11) and above are eligible for the BTEC in Public Services. This is an award worth 4 GCSE’s that rewards their time and efforts in extra curricular activities, Duke of Edinburgh, sports and courses. The Cadet programme is the only National Youth Organisation offering young people the valuable skills to achieve this diploma, which is nationally recognised and respected by Institutes of Higher Education and employers.
Sutton Valence School CCF is affiliated to the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment.

The CCF meets regularly with a weekly slot within the school timetable, for a 2 hour period on a Wednesday afternoon. This time is occupied in a variety of ways dependent on section, but each afternoon is started by a Contingent parade outside the School's Cornwallis Building. The CCF also regularly undertake training on Field Days (usually overnight) at Military bases.
The sections within the CCF are primarily run by the NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers), who will lead the teaching of the program for the most part, but are supported by members of staff from the School who under take voluntary Officer roles within the military.
The program in the CCF offers opportunities of a variety of courses from Cadre to Signals to Shooting. The CCF also provides a variety of exciting opportunities you would not normally get every day, for example the recent Field Day in March 2007 has allowed several members of the CCF to spend a day training with the Royal Engineers. Sutton Valence CCF also takes the opportunity each Easter for an Adventurous Training trip to the Lake District, allowing cadets to work towards their Duke of Edinburgh's Award and also take part in activities that aren't regularly a feature of the CCF program.
The CCF at Sutton Valence is a fantastic springboard opportunity for any student who is thinking about the possibility of a career in the military, with officers from the services coming to the school to do career presentations and to talk about Scholarships and Bursaries available for joining the Armed forces.
