Academic Ambition
Academic progress in the Sixth Form is focused and demanding in the best possible way. Pupils step into a more adult style of learning, with guidance that helps them manage their time well and think with increasing independence. Most pupils take three A Levels or CTech courses, with the option of a fourth for those studying Further Mathematics.
Each subject has six taught hours a week, giving pupils the space to explore ideas properly rather than skim the surface. Options such as the Extended Project Qualification, CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment) and other specialist courses allow pupils to stretch themselves further and push into areas that genuinely interest them.
Progress is tracked carefully through regular attainment and effort grades, termly reports and Parents’ Evenings. Tutors, House staff and the Head of Sixth Form work closely together so pupils receive timely, specific guidance. Small classes and seminar‑style teaching encourage discussion, challenge and genuine academic conversation, while dedicated Sixth Form study areas and departmental workspaces give pupils the environment they need for calm and productive working.
The result is a Sixth Form experience that feels active, ambitious and engaging – a step towards university‑style study where pupils begin to understand what independent learning really looks like.
