Moving Up

Growing up within our ‘One School’ community means that every transition is gentle, thoughtful and rooted in familiarity. Whether pupils are moving from Pre-Prep into Prep or from Prep into the Senior School, we focus on building confidence and creating a sense of excitement about the next stage.

Moving to Prep (Y2 to Y3)

The move into Prep is an important moment and we make sure pupils feel ready and reassured. At the end of the summer term they spend time in their new classroom, meet their new teacher and begin to understand the routines and expectations of Prep life. These sessions help pupils feel settled and prepared while also giving them a taste of new subjects and learning spaces. By September pupils return with confidence and enthusiasm ready for the adventures that lie ahead.

Moving to Senior School (Y6 to Y7)

Transition to the Senior School is planned carefully and reflects the same consistency and care pupils experience throughout their Prep years. From an early stage, pupils take part in shared activities that help them become familiar with Senior School life in a natural and supportive way. These include buddy reading, regular library visits, Languages Day, historic walks, opportunities for cross‑over sports coaching, and attending Senior School drama productions. Older pupils may also take part in music masterclasses and subject‑based enrichment, giving them confidence in working alongside older pupils and staff.

In Year 5, families meet the Headmaster to discuss options and consider the most suitable pathway for each child. Later in the year, pupils attend a Year 5 Experience Day at the Senior School, where they work together on leadership and teamwork activities and experience new challenges in a structured and supportive setting. These early connections help pupils build familiarity while remaining securely supported within the Prep School.

The transition comes together in June with the Year 6 Induction Day. Pupils spend a full day following a Senior School timetable, taking part in lessons and activities, meeting key staff and getting to know their future classmates. By the time they begin Year 7, pupils arrive with confidence, a strong sense of belonging and a clear understanding of what lies ahead.
