Senior School Life
School life at Sutton Valence is shaped by a strong sense of community and a daily rhythm that helps pupils feel steady and well supported. Houses, tutor groups and shared spaces create natural moments of connection, while the structure of the day allows pupils to balance their academic work with time for friendships and a wide range of activities. Pupils learn how to take responsibility for themselves and how to contribute to the life of the School, becoming part of a community that values consideration, integrity and genuine involvement.

Houses and Pastoral Structure
Every pupil belongs to a day house with a daily tutor group. Vertical tutoring brings ages together so older pupils mentor younger ones. First Form (Year 7) and Second Form (Year 8) pupils have a dedicated Juniors house for specialist care and a smooth transition into Senior School.
Recognition and Values
The Blue Rewards are given to recognise positive contribution at school. Pupils collect points toward certificates, badges and a dark blue gown for Chapel on special occasions.
Pupil‑led groups such as TIDE promote inclusion and diversity, and the Eco Committee drives sustainability across School life.
Nourishing The Mind
The Refectory is an important part of daily life at Sutton Valence School, providing pupils with freshly prepared meals and a welcoming space to spend time with friends. Delicious food is cooked on site each day and offers a wide choice to suit different tastes and dietary needs. Lunchtime includes a minimum of two hot dishes, a full salad bar, fruit bar, soup of the day and pasta or jacket potato options. Meals are balanced, varied and made with locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
Allergies and special dietary requirements are managed carefully. Pupils register their needs with the Medical Centre, and the Catering Manager works with families to ensure appropriate provision. The team holds formal training in allergy awareness and food nutrition, ensuring that all pupils feel supported and able to eat with confidence.
Chapel Life
The Chapel is a focal point for reflection and community. We take a liberal, open‑minded approach to faith and welcome respectful debate. Weekly services, Headmaster’s Assemblies and the termly Eucharist sit alongside musical events such as the Carol Service. Each year we also host a Confirmation Service led by the Bishop of Dover, giving pupils who wish to take this step an opportunity to do so within the School community.
