Leadership Roles

Leadership at the Prep School grows with the pupils, beginning with simple responsibilities in the early years and developing into formal roles as they progress through the School.

Pupils gain confidence as they take on small roles within their classes, learning to support one another and contribute to shared routines. As they move up the School, these early experiences expand into more visible opportunities to lead.

Castle Captains in Years 2, 4 and 6 play an important part in shaping the spirit of their Houses, encouraging participation and fostering a strong sense of belonging. Sport Captains take active roles during fixtures for younger year groups and assist with equipment set‑up when required, gaining practical experience of teamwork and organisation.

Leadership is woven throughout the wider School community. Pupils mentor younger classmates, take part in the School Council and contribute to decisions that shape daily life at the Prep School.

As pupils enter the upper years, responsibility increases. Year 5 pupils support Year 2 pupils during their transition into Prep, as ‘buddies’, offering reassurance and a friendly point of contact within the pupil body. In Year 6, pupils can become Head Prefects, taking on roles that require good judgement, reliability and a commitment to the School community. Prefects also act as ambassadors for the School, taking families on tours during Open Mornings.

These opportunities help every pupil understand that leadership is not defined by titles, but by taking responsibility, setting an example and supporting others.
