Mereworth Training Camp
On Wednesday, the Third Form embarked on a two-day CCF residential trip to Mereworth Training Camp.
Upon arriving at the camp, there was a quick introduction before setting up bashas (army tents), which were to be their accommodation for the night. A practice of military drill, followed by a navigation exercise to familiarise the cadets with the training area in preparation for the night exercise, filled the remaining time in the afternoon.
As the sun began to set, the cadets were “taken prisoner” and took part in a dramatic escape and evasion, aided by friendly forces whilst being “hunted” down by Sixth Form NCOs.
The following day included a range of different activities, including march and drill, observation, rations, camouflage and concealment, laser shooting, command tasks and archery. The trip concluded with a final parade, where Junior Company were given their cadet rank slides and caps.
Many thanks to the NCOs for giving their time and expertise, and to the staff for planning and running the stands and events.
