The Sutton Valence community is structured and operates to ensure that children are educated about the importance of community, their role in it and through that, their responsibilities in the wider community as citizens. It is a community where each cares for all and Leadership Week from the 4th to 6th July celebrated this philosophy by embracing the 3C’s: Community, Collaboration and Caring.

The last week of Summer Term culminated in a Fair to Care in aid of United World Schools. The pupils had fun putting their leadership skills in to practice by helping to organise, facilitate and run this event, in which they sold items they had designed, donated and crafted. It was so pleasing to see children from Nursery to Year 6 extending their P4L global awareness and understanding, acknowledging their social responsibility and applying their ‘innovate and create’ Super Hoot Learning Powers, to create items to sell at the Fair to Care.

The week also saw our students work collaboratively with pupils from St Peter’s Primary in Aylesford, who also created items to sell. Some of our students also organised and ran the SVPS Mount Everest Challenge, in which we sought to run or walk the elevation of Mount Everest (8800 miles). I am pleased to inform you that we travelled the distance of Mount Everest 40 times and our school community raised over £2000 for the UWS Hile School in Nepal, which will be doubled by the UK government.

The pupils worked tremendously hard creating, selling and counting the money afterwards. In their words, “I have never seen so many coins!”.

Thank you to all the parents and families that helped to make this happen. Not only have our students raised a remarkable amount of money for charity, but they have also had the opportunity to learn the art of giving through the sacrifice of their time and talents.
