French Play

30 November 2018

On Thursday, it was French theatre day for our children in Years 5 and 6. For the third year running, Onatti Theatre Company treated us to a very energetic and amusing performance by two actors: one French-speaking and one English. Ticket pour l’Espace was the story of a British schoolboy, Jack, who enters and wins a competition run by the French Government’s Space Department. His prize is a trip to L’Espace on Spaceship Explorateur Deux. Another winner on the trip is a French girl called Noémie. Jack doesn’t speak French and Noémie speaks no English but they do manage to understand each other. After their orientation at Space School, the two children set off on their exciting adventure, along with our pupil, Josh! It doesn’t all go to plan however……  Explorateur Deux has a mechanical problem; crashes into an unknown planet; Jack has to venture outside to fix the power problem, and an alien appears and prowls around the spaceship. Eventually, everyone arrives back on Earth in one piece.  But did the alien come too?

The children thoroughly enjoyed this lively performance, as well as the opportunity to learn French in a very dynamic way.  Well done Josh, Emma and Alexander for being super volunteers, and thank you Onatti for a thoroughly enjoyable and fun afternoon of language-learning.
