The School takes its food very seriously. All our meals are produced from scratch, on site by our expert catering team of 15 chefs, cooks and assistants.  We provide students with a healthy menu in a balanced, educational and collaborative way.

Healthy Menu

We offer an eclectic menu encompassing dishes from around the world, as well as traditional British fare. Our pupils enjoy authentic spicy curries, pasta dishes and roast dinners. The School understands its responsibility to provide nourishing and appetising food that is appropriate for growing pupils. The School Food Plan is the standard set for independent schools and from this basis we create our termly meal plans. The aim is to teach our pupils how to make the right food choices.

Fruit and vegetables

Fresh fruit is available at every meal time. At lunch, pupils are offered two cooked main courses, an extensive salad bar with over 20 items, jacket potatoes, pasta dishes and a large fruit salad counter.

Meats, fruit, vegetables and salads are primarily from Kent and Sussex farms. The best quality ingredients are sourced as locally as possible to minimise food miles. We use a leading independent school food procurement company to vet and audit suppliers and ensure they meet the highest food safety and quality standards.  Our School butcher is both EEC and BRC accredited.

Allergies and special diets

Pupils with special dietary requirements register their needs with the School Medical Centre and a plan is then agreed with the Catering Manager.  Our recipe software identifies 14 of the most common food allergies, so pupils can select meals with confidence.

Boarders are treated to what we are reliably informed is the “the best breakfast in Maidstone”, consisting of cereals, porridge, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, warm croissants, poached eggs, grilled bacon, wholemeal bread, butcher's sausage tea, coffee and fruit juice.

Boarding houses are equipped with kitchens where students have access to drinks, snacks, and fresh fruit between meals. A boarding food forum meets regularly to write the dinner menu together. At weekends, overseas students often take it in turns to cook their favourite dishes from home.
