Rugby
Sutton Valence School has a long and strong rugby tradition and even for a relatively small school we regularly field 10 or more sides, from age 11 through to 18.
Rugby is played during the Michaelmas term, with all year groups playing as part of their games programme. However, all are actively encouraged to take part in School fixtures, whether it be at 1st team level or the U13D team.
We aim to nurture and develop the core skills of all our players and instil the values and ethos that underpin the sport of Rugby. Through this on-going process, the level of performance will improve and players will realise their potential both on and off the field.
We regularly put players forward for county selection and over recent years many have made selection at throughout all the age groups. We regularly have students who are part of the Harlequins or Saracens Rugby Academy pathways and this is testimony to the hard work and high ability of our students and also our coaches.
We have an extensive 15-a-side fixture list playing many top rugby schools such as Tonbridge School, Eastbourne College, Whitgift School and King’s Canterbury. During the Spring Term, the 1st VII, U16 VII and U14 VII enter the National Sevens at Rosslyn Park.
In recent seasons Sutton Valence has developed strong links with Saracens Rugby Club that has led to a number of innovative links being developed with the current European Cup and Premiership Champions.
The School have worked in partnership with Saracens to design a pre-season programme that gives players the opportunity to participate either in a two-day camp or a three-day (two night) residential camp that will be run at the just prior to the Michaelmas Rugby Term. This pre-season camp is open to players from outside Sutton Valence School are welcome to attend.
