No-one has ever made it through their lives without someone else’s help…

Community and care are central to what we believe in at the School and so I am very proud to be the co-ordinator of the Volunteering programme. It allows our students the chance to experience what it feels like to put others above themselves and to care for those in our community and to gain an understanding and insight into the lives of those whose experiences are very different from their own. It is run to allow our pupils to help others and, in doing so, grow in understanding and empathy. It brings rewards and opportunities in so many ways, to so many people; it is a pleasure to be a part of.

The students have the opportunity to work through the ASDAN short course in Volunteering at the end of which, on successful completion, they receive a certificate in Volunteering.

The Volunteering programme involves the Lower Sixth Form students only. They plan, source and organise their own activities giving them a sense of ownership. These placements vary from working in our Prep School to providing companionship in a care home. On Wednesday afternoons, they go out to their respective activities and work for approximately two hours.

The students are, invariably, a credit to the School in terms of their attitude, loyalty and commitment to the activities. As volunteers, they have provided useful services to the local and wider community and each year we receive some wonderful messages of thanks for the work that the students do.
