The Sutton Valence Blue

Sutton Valence School’s strength and success is based upon the four pillars of Academic, Community, Leadership and Co-curricular provision.  Everything our pupils do is leading them towards achievement in these areas.

Our rewards system is structured so that ALL pupils can achieve and receive recognition for their contributions to school life, whatever their ability.

Points can be given by any member of staff and accumulate until various levels of award are reached. These will be entered on the school database, monitored by tutors and made available to parents. Tutors should also enter Blue Points for their tutees each half term for monitoring grades, conduct cards, attendance, leadership and community contribution before grades or reports are finalised for despatch to parents. It is intended that the points will be cumulative across First and Second Forms, Third to Fifth Forms and Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth Forms. That is, there is a fresh start in First, Third and Sixth Forms, as pupils may only be awarded one Blue Badge at each of these points.

The number of points needed for each award level are:

30 pts = Certificate, awarded by Housemaster in Assembly – with £2 tuck shop voucher and postcard home.

60 pts = Certificate, awarded by Deputy Headmaster/Director of Sixth Form in Assembly – with £5 voucher or equivalent and postcard home.

90 pts = An SVS ‘Blue’ Lapel Badge (a ‘Junior Blue’ in Forms 1 and 2, a ‘Middle Blue’ in Forms 3 - 5 and a ‘Senior Blue in the Sixth Form) will be awarded by the Headmaster in assembly - with £10 voucher or equivalent and letter home.

Any pupil who earns two ‘Blue’ badges in their School career will be awarded a Sutton Valence School Dark Blue Gown (similar to a Prefects’ Gown) to wear in Chapel and on special occasions as the ultimate accolade.
