Our comprehensive enrichment programme gives pupils the opportunity to enjoy enriching pursuits that extend and develop their skills, pushing the boundaries of their capabilities.
The programme is wide-ranging, providing platforms to develop skills, teamwork and personal responsibility. Our students enjoy fresh challenges or take up a new hobby from the dozens of clubs and societies. These range from the conventional, such as chess and model building club, to the more energetic, such as judo and archery, to the cultural such as the Foreign Film Society and Theatregoers’ Society. The more cerebral elements include Psychology Forum, Debating at all levels, Public Speaking and the Science Crest Award. Communication, creativity and self-expression are essential elements in the total education of the child, with additional opportunities in these areas being offered through co-curricular Music and Drama.
Sutton Valence has a richly deserved reputation in both boys’ and girls’ sport. Many students represent the county and nation in areas such as rugby, hockey, cricket, race walking and kayaking. There is an imaginative ‘sport for all’ programme incorporating the major sports and an extensive variety of minor sports, which gives every pupil the chance of finding something in which to participate and enjoy. The weekly fixture list is extensive, with approximately two thirds of our students playing in weekend matches. High standards of sportsmanship and discipline are nurtured throughout all the sports, with older students assisting with the coaching of younger pupils.
The CCF and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and service to the community are an integral part of our provision, enabling achievement and enjoyment beyond the classroom. Contributing to the wider community and teamwork are pivotal in these areas while leadership opportunities abound, building confidence, determination and self-esteem.
Whatever the potential of the child, we offer the support to discover and hone it.
