STEM Day at the Senior School

27 June 2019

The Senior School welcomed Year 5 from SVPS for their annual STEM Day this week. Led by the Sixth Form Science Ambassadors, the younger pupils were challenged to engineer a method of transporting tomatoes down the side of a mountain without damaging the fruit. This is a problem faced by Nepalese farmers who grow their produce high on the mountainsides, then take it down steep, dangerous paths to sell in the markets. The Year 5 pupils came up with a number of unique designs, including pulley and tunnel systems. They were marked on their teamwork, planning and successful transportation of a basket of cherry tomatoes. There were lots of squeals as tomatoes fell to the floor en route and some very creative additions to the models, such as farmers, trucks and market stalls. It was a wonderful way to enjoy a sunny day in Science and a huge thanks must go to the Sixth Form: Tom, Noah, Amelia, Pescha, Lara, Oliver, Paige and Fergus. Their energy, patience, leadership and creativity were essential for such a successful day.

Mrs Loy
STEM Coordinator.
