On the last day of Lent Term, the SVPS Chamber Choir hotfooted it up to London to perform in the United Westminster Schools Foundation Concert. This was the culmination of the VOCES8 Project, organised by the Foundation, which saw VOCES8 countertenor, Barney Smith, work with the choir here at School during the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.
All of the schools in the Foundation were involved in the project, coming together on the day of the concert to rehearse two joint items as well as their individual pieces. The other schools are all secondary or senior schools and our pupils relished the opportunity to perform with the older children and certainly learned a great deal from the experience.
As well as the joint pieces (Orlando Gibbons’ Drop, Drop Slow Tears and Paul Smith’s Pas de Deux), the SVPS choir performed Cesar Franck’s beautiful Panis Angelicus (accompanied by VOCES8) and their own composition, Fireworks for Flags. It was a long day, but a wonderful one!
Director of Music
It was an honour to sing in front of all the students from the other senior schools. Also, it was a huge privilege to sing my heart out with the impeccable VOCES8. I was so proud to be part of Chamber Choir - we work so well together as a team and we had a great day full of fun! It was a fantastic experience! Thank you Mrs Geering.
