Westminster Abbey visit

Six pupils from the Upper Sixth visited Westminster Abbey on Monday for a day of critical scholarship centred around 400 years of the King James Bible and the influence it has had on our cultural,linguistic, ethical, religious, literary, ecclesiastical, and musical heritage.

The day began with an address from the Dean about how this particular translation came into existence in the reign of James I, and the debt that it owed to previous translations such as the Geneva Bible and the work of William Tyndale. There then followed a series of seminars and discussion groups in which our students were involved, their eyes being opened to the profound fascination and excitement to be discovered within academic theology as a critical
discipline to stretch the mind.  The journey home was a whirl of theological debate.  To be continued ... perhaps at university?
