Hockey

Hockey at Sutton Valence is thriving. In recent seasons we have regularly qualified for the Kent and Regional finals. The girls have also been to the Regional indoor finals every year for the last six years.

Hockey is the girls and boys major sport in the Michaelmas and Lent Terms respectively.  All students are encouraged to play Hockey throughout these terms, whether it be in School teams or during inter-house competitions.  The School fields up to 14 teams on a Saturday for girls and boys, including Cup age group teams during the week.  We endeavour to provide competitive matches for all pupils at the School.

The fast-paced nature of the sport makes it a great activity to for all. Pupils play to their strengths while pushing themselves to improve their weaknesses. We challenge them to improve their speed, agility, accuracy and endurance whilst developing an understanding of tactics and team playing.

Sutton Valence has outstanding Hockey facilities with two sand-dressed AstroTurf pitches.  This means that all students play on AstroTurf every week.  The Sports Centre also provides fantastic indoor facilities that allows our students to sample both indoor and outdoor Hockey on a regular basis.

Many boys and girls have achieved county and national representation and are part of the EHB "single system", going on to play the highest standard of university and club Hockey.  The School hosts the JDC and our pupils have not just taken part but also coached at a county level.  The Old Suttonian Hockey provides a lasting link with the School and an increasing number of leavers participate each year.
