Pre-Prep Academic Welcome
We must remember that at this stage children arriving at Sutton Valence Preparatory School are only 3 years old. So the very best medium of learning for young children is play; after all, play is the work of young children! It is key to our delivery of the areas of learning required in the EYFS and must be a significant part of the delivery of KS.
From the moment the child enters our School, we recognise and treat them as the individuals they are and, therefore, deliver different activities, as each child may require a different approach to learning. Over the two year period of EYFS, the staff slowly and gradually introduce more adult-directed approaches to learning, by introducing topic-based work that is designed to enhance your child’s unique learning preferences.
All Pre-Prep children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and decision makers, working through a thought process of risk taking without fear of failure. This is taught throughout the School via creative age-appropriate topics that will fire the imagination and give opportunities to use real-life tools. After all, curiosity must be cherished and allowed to grow. How else will tomorrow’s inventors be developed?
Throughout their stay in Pre-Prep the children are regularly monitored, assessed and the results acted upon. Parents are a valued part of the decision process and so the children’s progress will be discussed at parents’ evening.
